European Day of Languages was celebrated in St. Clare's on September 26th 2008.
The 5th Class choir sang the song 'Bruder Jakob' in five languages - Irish, English, French, German and Lithuanian! The whole school attended the performance and Gina McQuaid represented the German Section of the Modern Languages in Primary Schools Initiative ( www.mlpsi.ie) at the event.
To mark this day and to celebrate the teaching of German in St. Clare's, the two 6th classes made beautiful 'Schultüten' to present to the two 5th classes. The presentation was to welcome them into the German community at St. Clare's. German is taught by Mrs. Redmond to 5th and 6th classes. Pupils are introduced to the German language and culture over a two year period.
The day was a huge success and brought awareness to the pupils of the many languages spoken in Europe today.
