Walk to school

Green School

It really helps the environment if we take public transport, walk or cycle to school instead of coming by car. In St. Clare's we all try our best not to come by car to school. Everyone wears high visibility jackets so that we can be seen by cars and cyclists on the road.

For details of all Green School Events held in the school please visit our News and Events Blog.

European Mobility Week

European mobility week runs from the 16th to 22nd of November. All children are encouraged to walk, cycle or take the bus to school. We are running three special days, Trot on Tuesday, Walk on Wednesday and Feet First Friday. The Green School committee will be recording the names of the children who walk, cycle or take the bus on these days. There will be a prize for the class who has the highest percentage of children who walked, cycled or took the bus. We are also running a poster competition, there will be a winner in each class. Walk to School Week

High Visibilty

At Harold's Cross this morning
I saw a boy caoted in light,
in yellow jacket so luminous
he made the dar November bright.

Like beacons I saw more coming,
walking with mothers and prams,
some in seats on the back of bikes
others cycled, some skate some ran.

They shone through the gloom
of side roads and of the leafless park,
and coming across the canal bridge
they made the swans look dark.

A place that once housed orphans
is now besiged with joy,
children emerge from the darkness,
clothed in light, every girl, every boy.

Arriving from every direction
at St. Clare's gate they cluster around.
I would love to be an eye in the sky,
see that yellow star shine on the ground.
